Jawa has plans to launch new motorcycles in the near future

In an attempt to keep its audience engaged during the ongoing lockdown, Jawa Motorcycles recently announced an art contest campaign under the ‘Jawa Kommuniti Kustoms’ banner. The retro-classic motorcycle brand invited its fans to submit their entries of digitally customized versions of 42.

The brand has shared top-4 final entries of its art contest on its social media handle ahead of announcing the final winner. The shortlisted entries give custom motorcycle builders and Jawa owners interesting modification ideas.

It seems that the campaign is aimed at demonstrating the 42’s ability to take on customization. Aftermarket modifications contribute hugely to Royal Enfield motorcycles’ brand image, and being a direct rival, Jawa Motorcycles is aiming to achieve similar recognition.

It is not surprising to see that the top entries of this art contest adopt adventure tourer, cafe racer and scrambler body styles with the latter accounting for three of the four finalists. The adventure tourer mod portrays the Jawa with a raised suspension, dual-purpose tyres, windshield, custom exhaust downtube which ends under the belly without a canister, stepped seats, pillion backrest, panniers and high-mounted front fender. If at all Jawa decides to come up with a Royal Enfield Himalayan rival, it would be similar to this digital rendering.

The cafe racer entry also looks equally interesting with slow-slung custom seat, flat handlebar, dark colour theme, thick tyres and a minimal front fender. Such a customization should be relatively easier and affordable to execute.

The scrambler entries have distinctly different appeals. While the hand-drawn modern tailpiece and a slender exhaust tube, the digitally created one raised exhaust tube and a flat seat with serious off-roading intentions.

Jawa is powered by a 293 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine derived from the Mahindra Mojo. Paired to a 6-speed gearbox, the motor produces 27 hp and 28 Nm of torque. The stock motorcycle is equipped with conventional telescopic front fork and twin gas-charged rear shock absorbers. Braking is take care of by 280 mm front disc with single-channel ABS and a 153 rear drum.
